I live in NY. I have been out of work for a little over a week now. I was not fired or laid off. On November 6th I had a meeting with the HR department of my employer. I was told that a "bedbug was found on my chair". They advised me that I was not allowed to come in until I was exterminated. I explained to them that I could not afford it. They were to reach out to their exterminator and the higher ups to see what they could do to help me. I was supposed to hear from them Monday or Tuesday. I did not receive a call. I gave them until today to contact me. Since I did not hear from them I contacted them. Was forced to leave a message. I have not received a call back at this time. I have no income coming in due to this. I am not sure if I am still employed with them. In April 2015 they tried to blame me about bedbugs. I gave them proof that my landlord had paid for treatment back in 2012-2013. I did everything in my power not to get them after this treatment. lost 3 days of work. When I returned they paid me those 3 days I was not there. Due to my job I now have this issue again. I am going to have to start from scratch again. And as it is my landlord does not have to pay to be exterminated as this is a 2 apartment place. I cannot file for unemployment and I am not being paid for this. I am not sure if this is legal or if they are allowed to do this. I am not able to afford a lawyer at this time. But I could use the legal advice.
