My problem is this. I said something about myself to someone I considered a friend but was upset with at the time. I said it on their voice mail. Another person has heard this voice mail and wants to use it against me concerning my job. Since the voice mail was not to this third person nor does it involved this third person are they able to use in order to make me look bad and may be lose my job.

Why not go to your boss and talk to them. Let them know you said something stupid in haste.

This is what is known as the "unreliable ear" -- basically, whenever you speak to another person, you run the risk that the other person is an "unreliable ear" and that person will go and tell what you told them to another. In other words, just like you probably learned in elementary school, the only was to keep a secret is to keep it to yourself!
