What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Michigan

Monday, I used Nair for men on a small patch of my leg. After one day, the small area where I put the product was perfectly fine, so I used said product on my back. I followed the directions, and it didn't work, and began to burn horribly. I immediately took the product off and used an aloe to soothe my back.

Well here we are, nearly a week later, and I have been miserable. My back hasn't gotten better, and in fact it's only gotten worse. I haven't been to my dermatologist yet, but what are my next steps? Do I have a case vs Nair? I just want my back to get better, but I'm scared. Any help would be great.

Thanks.

Nope. You use these products at your own risk. Different parts of your body may have different reactions. And if you got burned, then you need to realize that this is what the product does - it literally melts the hair off.

If you had intended to use it on your back, then you needed to do a small test area first instead of putting it all over your back. You probably had an acute sensitivity there, or left it on too long (thinking that it would work if you just left it on longer).

My suggestion is to use an over-the-counter aloe vera gel with pain reliever in it until your skin recovers from the product application. Medically speaking, if it's that severe, you might even to to your doctor to have them look at it.

But no, you did NOT win the lawsuit lottery here.

Just want to second the whole "test the area you plan to apply the product to" advice.

Think about....For the average person, the skin on one's legs is tougher than the skin on your back. We wear shorts in the summer, tan, use our legs for working, things are always brushing against our legs(even these little things add up to toughen up the skin there), etc. By contrast, our backs are generally always protected by shirts and so the skin there is more tender and therefore more sensitive to chemicals, like the highly corrosive ones in a product like Nair.

There's a reason they recommend keeping it on for as little time as possible and cleaning it off thoroughly after application.

It's important to understand the depilatories like Nair work by DISSOLVING the bonds of hair, allowing it to fall out. It would make sense that the chemicals in these have the potential for causing skin irritation, especially if used on areas that are typically covered by clothing or more sensitive. The potential for burning is increased if the product is kept on over the recommended time.

A case with who for what?

One's own negligence in failing to follow the directions on these products is not the fault of the product manufacturer.

The OP said that he followed the instructions, so it's a physical injury cause by the product. And if he followed the instructions meaning that he also followed the caution of the product upon usage. So the chemical burn his back so he has the right to file a case with the manufacturer for the damage caused by the product.

Sure he does, but he shouldn't expect to get anything out of it. Especially if he waited a MONTH after the incident to report it to the company. Burns are a known risk of using the product, and his patch test was done on a different part of the body than where he used the majority of it - bad idea. But posting on threads that have been inactive for a month does not help anyone.
