What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Colorado

I bought a timeshare in Vail 1in 1996 and paid the expenses on it until 1999 when I turned over my deed in lieu of foreclosure and stopped paying the expenses. Now suddenly in 6/10, a charge of nearly $4000 has appeared on my credit records showing that it was placed in collections in 6/09. I was informed some years ago that there is a statute of limitations on HOA debts that begins at the point of the breech. Does anybody have any information on that and/or suggestions on how to correct my otherwise perfect credit record?

Laurie, have you been in Colorado since you deeded the place back? If not, the statute of limitations may not have been running in your favor.

Did you owe any money when you gave them the timeshare back? If so, that's what the collection is about. Giving back the timeshare doesn't erase the debt.

Laurie: Have you been in Colorado since you deeded the place back?

Yes, I have.

No...not a penny. The timeshare was fully paid for and I was current with the expenses.

What is the statute by the way? Surely, it's not 10 years!
