My husbands ex-wife refuses to let my husband have any contact with their son(age 11). This has been happening since we decided to get married(7 years ago). He has made many attempts to contact him, and she is always near the phone and knows who is calling and tells the son not to talk. My husband has wanted to take her to court to have the visitation enforced, but we have been told we need an attorney to do this, and we cannot afford an attorney at this time. Now we live in different states and are not sure how to go about getting his son -- any ideas? The mother gets very angry with my husband when he calls(she brings up their past) and says he is a bad influence on her son. She said last week that she told the boy all the things his dad did wrong in the past, i guess, in order to get the boy to not like his dad. His son has been able to see his parents at times, and has told them that he wants to see his dad, but his mom wont let him. We need to get this resolved ASAP for my husband and his son(I know they both are very unhappy!) Thank you for any advice!

If he was serious about this he would have done something about it 7 years ago. I am sure the marriage and the recent move to another state cost money so why was that not channelled into retaining an attorney ? Do you have a computer ?, sell it etc.. The only way forward is via court action ..

visitation

This was not my idea of helpful information. The wedding was simple, If I recall the price was $35. We had to move, and this move enabled us a better job market. This move also didnt cost much at all. We do not own a computer, I use someone elses to access information. My husband has also been waiting thinking in time she would calm down and realize that she was doing the WRONG thing, and avoid having to go to court.(I dont believe anyone likes the thought of going to court!) If you are correct in saying that the only way to get visitation back is by hiring a lawyer, that is an awful way of keeping non-custodial parents away from their children. I am sure there are many parents in this circumstance that do not have the "extra" money needed to hire an attorney. All they want is their RIGHT to see their child(ren).
