What is the name of your state? California

I am P&S with typing and writing modifications and will be sent to vocational training. Why is the cost to see a counselor $3500-$5000 so high? What services other than informing you of programs do they serve? For limited typing/writing, what kind of programs do they typically offer? I've checked out vocational sites and seems like they offer dental assistant, legal assistant, graphic design or interior design which would not be good for someone with my type of injury. If I elect not to choose a counselor, what other options do I have? Can the adjuster provide me with a list of programs? Also, once settlement and training ($16,000) money runs out, can I collect unemployment? Can I collect unemployment now?

Thanks,
Whiskee

the counselor is an expert in the field of vr and it is doubtful that the adjuster can give you much guidance. the maximum a counselor can earn is $4500. for that money, he advises you and helps you choose a program, does some vocational testing, develops a vocational rehabilitation plan, coordinates the plan with the adjuster, the school and the applicant, provides job placement, and general assistance. if you don't have a counselor, you may not know how to draw up a vr plan and therefore you will not be able to go through vr, as a plan is needed before approval is given by the carrier. before a plan is approved, your doctor must give the ok, and it may be that some of the vocations you believe are unsuitable, actually fall within your work restrictions. i suggest you let the expert guide you.
