I have an outstanding store credit debt that I accrued 6-7 years ago, while I was still single. A judgement was filed for this debt in 1997, while I was still single. I was recently married and added my name(which has not been changed)to my husband's checking account. Recently, they froze the account. Not all of the money owed was in the account. I just recieved the papers on this(three days after they froze the account). With these papers was a chart showing how much of your wages can be garnished according to income. I make under a 150.00 a week, thus making my earnings non-garnishable. I have a court hearing for this matter in a couple of weeks. I intend to go to the judge and show proof of my earnings. My question is, Will they hold my husband(who had nothing to do with this) responsible for the debt or will they release the hold on our account? I don't know if it matters or not but, I live in the state of Virginia.
