I'm not sure if this belongs in this forum or not. I don't know anything about law. I just want to know if it is possible to do what I am about to explain:

I want to sue (or whatever) my dad for emotional abuse. I'm currently almost 21 but my life & future have suffered greatly because of his emotional / mental abuse when I was a minor. I am sure this could be proven with a psychological exam. I just want to know if it's possible to do this.My brother is 17 and feels the same way.. his life & future have suffered similarly.

Almost forgot, I live in Atlanta, Georgia.

Are you living in the same house as your father? If not, then drop it, get on with your life or you will be falling into a rut, by which I mean everytime you fail at something, no matter what it is, you will be blaming your father. If your brother is living with him still, and you have your own place, have him move in with you.

I know a 40 year old homeless guy who blames his downfall on his father, his turning to drugs is blamed on his father, every bad thing is blamed on his father, for the abuse that had happened.

You can become a much better person, by letting it go, getting an education, and proving to yourself that you are the best person you can be.

Good luck.

reply..

Actually, I could care less who's fault it actually is. I just want him to pay for being an @$$hole to us. I don't care if I will get anything out of it other than embarassing the crap out of him.... that's worth it. This isn't about my failures, it's just revenge plain and simple.

I just want to know if emotional abuse is a valid case.. could I take him to court for what he's done.

sue?

Call a few lawyers in your area, get the free consultations. See if any will take your case, on contingency, then you will have you answer.
You really are better off moving on, he will get his some day. Why waste your time, and energy (and money) on someone so worthless? Free your self of his hold on you and move on.
Good Luck

Do you have anything like witnesses (beside your brother), photos to prove anything? Police reports? Anything you can use to get him back, even school records, (if a teacher has written a note signifying a drastic change in you).

If you are living on your own and doing well for your self, have your brother move in with you. Don't go wasting your time and energy on a P.O.S/ like that. The ultimate revenge is to do better than your dad and rub it in his face. Cut off all ties, and make your self happy You can eventually become the Dad he never was.

Revenge is ultimately wrong, if you sink to his level to prove you're right; he still wins. SEE what I'm getting at? BUT if you forget about doing him in... and do good for your self, you will have the ultimate revenge, because you succeded where he failed. NOW THAT'S SWEET!!
