My girlfriend and I have been living together (California) for the past 5 years. She is currently starting her second trimester of an unplanned pregnancy. We both work and split all bills, including rent (she makes about 25K/yr and I about 75K/yr. Although I am willing to work so that she may be home with the child for the first few years, I am leery of getting into a situation which may require me to pay alimony one day (and our relationship is sufficiently strained for me to be concerned about such an eventuality) Should I be seeking some sort of legal arrangement such that, in the event the relationship deteriorates, I am not obligated to support her (on the premise that I have now raised her standard of living such that she need not work)? Thanks in advance!
