(State: SC, Case: All over United States) Hello, my father received a letter stating he was a victim in a certain case, and it mentioned his rights as a victim. The next page stated that all four defendants who committed fraud against the US were found guilty of charge. I was wondering, does this mean he is getting money? I tried researching the case but the only thing informing me of the case is the letter, which is incredibly vague about what happens to the victims/what they get other than court updates. None of us can decipher this letter, please help.
Note: Out of personal respect for the law, I refuse to post case details other than what you see here.

well, with that wealth of info, it is difficult to determine what is going on and whether he may eventually receive any money. The best I can say is: depending on how he lost money to these people, it may be possible a court order a repayment to their victims. (think Bernie Madoff).

The letter probably included the number for a victims' rights office or someone who he could contact for more information. I suggest he do so to determine what - if anything - he needs to do to be compensated.

More than likely, he is not getting any money unless he is paid out of restitution after the defendant(s) is convicted. He may have to submit information to substantiate the financial loss.

Now, if this is some sort of form letter concerning a big class action affair, he might want to be careful about disclosing any personal details because there are occasional frauds involving high profile cases.

I once got one of these letters.

after fantasizing all day about what I would do with my share, Finally I noticed at the bottom of the letter that my share of the compensation for the victims was 4.68

I threw the letter out.
