What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Michigan

Long story short...took wedding rings to jeweler to get resized, engraved and cleaned up. Engraving on woman's ring misspelled and otherwise flawed. Failed to inspect the rings when I picked them up. Found flaw after I got home.

At the time of pick up, I had to sign the back of the receipt which reads as follows: "The work performed is to my satisfaction and the item(s) are in good order. Items were received WITH/WITHOUT original claim check. I have received and inspected the item(s) listed on this form."

I haven't talked to them yet so I don't know how they will react to my complaint but I am afraid I really messed up by signing that without looking at the rings first. Please tell me what you would do in this situation. Thanks.

First step: Talk to them...come back after you hear what they have to say.

Chances are that signing that disclaimer will indemnify them against any claim you have for their failure to do the work properly. They could come back saying that the rings were in good condition with the right spelling on the engraving when you left (and you signed a release saying just that), so how could that have changed?

Not saying they are right, but that's why you should always read what you are signing to make sure you agree with it before you get stuck in a situation like this.

How is it, that you could want engraving done, and then when they show it to you at the jewelry store you don't notice it's wrong? What was the error? Wrong font, or font size?
