what does the phrase "maintence to be non-modifiable EXCEPT as set forth by statute" mean... what does the except stand for? Long story short, my husband and his ex-wife were divorced in the Fall of '99 and he has been order'd to pay her $330 per week for 3 1/2 years.... so far, we have managed - but it is getting tougher... we have declared bankruptcy, lost our van, are on the verge of losing our only vehicle left, are on the names of several creditor lists, could barely afford to move less than 200 miles for a new job and yet she has not worked until this past year and picked up and moved to Virginia. This weekly payment is for her only, there are no children involved, both of the girls are grown and married themselves. My husband has been diagnosed with ulcers, colitis, and is on the verge of depression... is this fair and is there any way we can fight this or argue that it was an unfair ruling by the judge... I am now just learning about the in's and out's of divorce... it is an ugly thing! This case happen'd in the state of Illinois. If you could please offer me any sort of advice, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you for your time.
