What is the name of your state? Ohio
What I need to know is - exactly what kind of "custody" do I have, and what rights does that give me?
I was reading a post by haiku:
I couldn't find the info for Ohio. I googled a bunch of stuff, and all I could find was probate info.
Here's the relevant info.
Baby born in Ohio. Dad present at birth, signed AOP. We were not married, ever (thank goodness). There has been no court order for anything yet. Dad won't file, I will file when I am officially an Ohio resident (Sept 24th) if that is what I need to do.
Do I have sole custody? Sole legal? What does that entail? Can I get a passport without dad? Make medical decisions? What else?
We may travel at some point (no current plans) and I don't think dad would have a problem with that, but it may be a pain to get notarized letters from him, etc. Also, baby has surgery scheduled in August to repair a birth defect. Do I need to get anything from dad for that?
Anyone know of an equivalent website to the one haiku posted, but for Ohio?
muchos gracias, oh wise ones.

though there are states that give both parents presumption of custody once paternity is legally established, Massachusetts is NOT one of them. The mother retains sole custody until such time as a court orders otherwise.
