What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Michigan

Due to economic hardship, I fell behind on my mortgage over a year ago. A few weeks ago, I received a 1099-c forgiving the entire amount of my mortgage. I have never ever received anything stating the house was in foreclosure, however, I did receive a letter from a collections agency about a year ago. They asked for my income information, and when I sent it in, I never ever heard anything back. I contacted my mortgage company who just referred me back to the collections agency, who never contacted me either. So after receiving the 1099c, what happens now? It never went into foreclosure or anything, so do I need to move out at this point? Will they come after me in the future if the debt has been forgiven? Im quite sure I don't own the house anymore, so will I be evicted? The taxes have been paid, and I live in Detroit. Someone told me they 'gave' me the house, but I find that hard to believe. Please advise, as I was actually waiting for them to tell me I had to leave. Thanks...
