What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Arizona.
I worked for a doctor for a year and a half. Yesterday I get a call from the police department saying they need me to come in and talk to them about a report filed by my ex employer. I got the impression is was about payroll. Do I need an attorney to go in and talk to them? Can I be arrested? What kind of trouble can I be in? I'm completely confused.

Do you know what the accusation is? I think you do. Only you know if you have any reason to be worried.

You do not have to speak to the police and I recommend you do not speak to the police. Exercise your right to remain silent.

Consult with an attorney in your area now.

If the police contact you again saying they want to talk to you, tell them they can speak to your attorney.
