I was wondering what power do a "rent-a-cop" have on the public roadway while escorting vehicles. I disobeyed one and nothing happened but was wondering what law says?

Do not know if it was funeral or not, it was a lot of cars. Thinking about it now it could have been funeral

The traffic control people in a funeral have the same rights as you. However, from the CA DMV driver's handbook: "Vehicles taking part in a funeral procession have the right of way and if you interfere, obstruct, or interrupt the funeral procession, you are subject to a citation. (VC §2817) The funeral procession is led by a traffic officer and all vehicles taking part in the procession have windshield markers to identify them."

Since you have the right to make a citizen's arrest, so do they.

The person in question wasn't in piece officer's uniform, it was close but it wasn't piece officer uniform.

Because he was not using police motorcycle. Who else would hire him, pd department is not in business of hiring them. He was dressed like an officer and but wasn't wearing an officer uniform, i am sure it fooled most motorist in to thinking he is an officer.
