I have just been told I will need open-heart surgery to replace the heart valve ruined by the drug Pondimin (Redux).
I called one of the law firms representing the "class", and
they asked me questions, advised me to "opt-out" and pursue individual case. One of the partners is driving from Phila., to my home..in Pennsylvania, 60 plus miles away, to speak to me.
I am 66 years old, have never had heart problems, my arteries are fine, blood pressure fine, and my mother just died last year at age 86. Never had rhuematic fever, or any other pre-existing conditions which might be connected to this condition. I was given the pondimin and phentermine combination by two bariatric doctors, and was on it for approx. 4-5 months. I do not smoke, do not eat red meat, and have had no other health problems besides allergies, and osteo-arthritis aches and pains. The Opt-out option date had already passed, but the attorney said they would use the "back-door" option....since I was just diagnosed, etc. I haven't a clue about the best way to proceed, and am totally ignorant about class-action cases. What questions should I ask the attorney when he visits? How can I protect myself from unfair charges? Can someone please help me? Thank you.
