I sold my parents 25 year old mercedes 25 days ago. They smogged it and passed in June when i took over title i didn't have to smog it because it was within the 90 days. When I sold it he said he would smog it and since it just passed he was not worried. He made me take it to his mechanic before he bought it and it got a clean bill of health from his mechanic and he paid me for the car. Now he is telling me he went to smog it 3 weeks after buying it and it failed and he was told I am responsible for paying for it to be fixed! I wanted 3500 for it and he got me down to 3000. I told him if i have to pay anything towards this car NOW three weeks after he signed a bill of sale and went away that i would want 3500 for the car and he could use that money to fix the smog problem.. Why it is not passing when it just did in San Francisco in just june i don't know. He said i should pay half to fix it ...i said no. He said i should go with him to get it smogged and i said no. I really had no idea i was responsible for smogging it before selling it.....he said he would do it .....since it's so many weeks later and he said he would be responsible for the smog arn't i off the hook now? The bill of sale said the sale is final with no warranty implied. Also he did send me to his mechanic before he bought it and he was told it was a GREAT CAR! Any ideas?
