What is the name of your state? Texas

My son age 13 got in-school-suspension for 10 days for flipping off a teacher (behind her back as he was leaving the room.) Another teacher in the hallway saw him and reported it. He was upset with her because she wasn't following his IEP plan and she asked him to leave the classroom even though he wasn't being disrespectful (she admits this.) ANYWAY, he has ADD and emotional difficulties. They never even told us that he was being suspended and when he went to school the next day they yelled at him for not showing up for suspension! I went to the school to complain and the next day they said they would cut his suspension to 5 days for flipping the bird. Now, mind you, this was not done to her face but as he was leaving the room and out in the hallway.

What would your school do or is there a certain guideline for this? I thought even 5 days was excessive for this. A kid stabbed another kid in the stomach with a pencil and didn't even get that long! Just curious to see your responses.

Enjay...

Hi Enjay. I like you. You've answered me before and I appreciate your opinions.

Now, anyone else with experience in something like this I'd love to hear from you...

I assume you think it inappropriate for a 13 year old to 'flip-off' his teacher to his/her face..... so why do you think it should be condoned since it was behind his/her back??

Personally, I would take the insolent little idiot out to the playground and tie him to the jungle gym for a few hours. Maybe then he would learn respect for teachers.
And since you seem to condone (or fail to understand the severity of his actions and what they very likely spell for his future), I would put you alongside him to shoo away the crows!!

JETX...

Where does it say in my post that I condoned what he did? I absolutely do not condone it and he was punished at home for his actions. I think it's worse to stab another child in the stomach with a pencil and only get 1 or 2 days suspension for it. He didn't commit a violent act yet they wanted to give him 10 days for it. I want to hear from other parents who have had something like this occur and what the consequences were or hear from someone who knows about a WRITTEN policy that states what the consequences are for such an action. I don't want to hear from idiots like you who automatically assume that you know everything about my values and my personal life. Stick to the LAW if you know anything about it - if not, then get off of the forums.

I totally disagree with JETX. The punk kid should have been taken immediately to the principals office and gotten a serve beating. Then given a 10 day suspension.

Woooo....

how long did it take you to think of that one? Wow, I'm really impressed with your intellect. Go back to the rock you crawled out from under. Now, all we need to wrap up this performance from the 3 stooges is to hear from IAAL. Or is it Son of Slime? You all really need to get a life because you definitely don't have law degrees.

Personally, I doubt the veracity of your claim that a child stabbed another with a pencil and only got suspension. The reason I doubt it is that, especially in this 'day and age', that student would have been turned over to the police. And when that happens, the news gets involved. I did a complete Texas-wide news-search and found NOTHING to support your story. The only one that was even similar was when a student carrying a pencil tripped and stabbed herself.... and it happened in Houston.

So, if I doubt your 'this-is-worse spin story', why should we believe your 'sob story'??

Your son is a punk, with absolutely no respect for his teachers (and probably any other authority or adult). I doubt that this is the first problem that your little 'angel' has had at school, right??

And, from the tone of your post, we can see that he doesn't fall far from the old rotten tree.

JINX...

You are a complete idiot. Since when is every single incident that happens at school put into the news? Good grief, there would be no more room for any other stories. It just so happens that today after school this particular child I spoke of needed a ride home because his detention was changed to another day and he couldn't reach his mother. I took him home. While in the car I questioned him about the incident. Yes, he 'poked' (his words) a kid in the stomach with a pencil and the nurse removed the lead from the kid's stomach. He got 3 days of in-school-suspension for it. Since then, he and this child have been in 3 other fights and the worst punishment he has received is 5 days of in-school-suspension. I don't give a rat's rear if you believe me or not. And what do you mean by my tone? You're the one that started with the sarcasm instead of listing 'facts' or the law. You obviously don't have any children and if you do they're not teens yet. Also, you must have been the PERFECT child. Yeah, right. Go find someone else to harrass.

Homecuckoo...

I can see, as well as everyone else here, that you thrive on "live" ones like me to get your kicks. How can it be that a supposed attorney has so much time to spend on a free advice forum? Hmmm...now that's a good one. And please don't tell me that you're senior partner of a 3 partner law firm and everyone else does your work for you so you can 'play.' We've all heard that one before. So, wanna tell us your story?

And how about you JINX?...

What's your story? How come you have so much time to spend on these forums? Inquiring minds want to know...

"You obviously don't have any children and if you do they're not teens yet"
*** Which one is it... can't be both!! Hell, you are so feeble-minded, you can't even make a simple cognizant sentence. Guess too much of that old 'wacky-weed', eh??

Bottom line.. you have already been shown to be a liar..... or at least an 'expander of the truth'. First, you claimed that one kid did 'stab another child in the stomach with a pencil', and it just so happens that this 'perp' got a ride in your car today, allowing you the 'rare chance' to ask him about it. WOW, what an incredible co-incidence!! And, yep, sure enough, he managed to collaborate your 'version'. What another surprise!!

And contrary to your belief, anytime a student STABS another in school, it hits the news BIG TIME!! Except in this case, it wasn't 'really' a stabbing, was it??

So, bottom line.... your son acted like an idiot. He got punished. So, you can whine and cry all you want..... all you are doing is showing him poor parenting skillls and how to learn to NOT be accountable or responsible for his actions.
Bub-bye.....:) :) :) :) :)
