When is a raise effective?

What is the name of your state? California

I got a review for my raise back in october and I thought it would be affective right away because they didn't say it wouldn't be. When I asked my boss she said that it is effective by the day your hired. I was hired nov 2 last year. its december and my raise still hasn't shown up on my check. shouldn't it have to be retro-active?

If there is a contract in place which specifically says when a raise is effective, it's effective when the contract says.

Otherwise, it's effective whenever the employer says it is.

Nothing whatsoever in the law requires it to be retroactive.
