What is the name of your state? NY

My father is an 86 year old recent stroke victim. His behavior has become physically abusive towards the family member who is caring for him in his home during his recovery. Though he has been told by his doctors not to drive, he is insisting that he should be allowed to. The doctors have told us to take away his license and car. This has enraged him even more. We are concerned for his safety and that of others. What kind of lawyer or agency do we seek out for help? We have spoken to members of the stroke association and they warned that his aggressive behavior is likely to escalate.

Does anyone have legal authorization over dad? If so, who and what exactly IS the legal authorization? Is dad competent?

Hide the car keys or do something to the car so it won't start. I had the same problem with my Dad when he was alive. You need to tell his doctor to write a letter to the Dept. of Driver's licensing telling them of the dangers of allowing him to drive. We got Dad's doctor to do that and the licensing dept. took away his driver's license for good. Dad was madder then hell but at least when Dad died he was in a bed and not in a car accident. Good luck.

The FIRST thing that needs to be established here is the poster's legal authorization.
