California. Original divorce and custody order occurred in Riverside County, California, giving sole physical custody to mother and joint legal to mother/father. 1988

Juvenile detention hearing in Butte County 1999. Father wants physical custody of minor and judge "takes jurisdiction" despite four lawyers stating that custody modification cannot be handled by this court, but must be pursued in Riverside County. An order giving custody to father is signed by Butte County Judge. Attorney tells Father to file this in Riverside County Court. Father never does this. Father lives in Merced County, six hours away from Riverside County.

Minor now wants to return to Mother. Father is agreeable. Who actually has legal custody? Is there any untangling that must be done? Does original order still stand, as it was never modified in Riverside County? Help! Please....
