What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California

I requested a payoff amount from the trustee on my loan in mid February (Feb 14 and Feb 17) to complete my payoff in full for March 1. After not hearing anything back I calculated the final amount and sent it in where it was received a few days late since I hadn't heard anything back, but still not late enough to impose a late fee. After I sent the check I finally received the payoff demand dated 3/1/13. I told them I had already sent the payoff amount, but was unaware of the fees since they had not responded to me so they were not included in the check. They told me to pay $95.92 to "complete the transaction and issue the Full Reconveyance." (which I did not pay at that time). Then I received a letter on 3/19/13 requesting a payment of $75 also for Demand and Full Reconveyance, with no explanation that it was a correction of the previous quote, I assumed it was in addition to the previous fees until I read it carefully. By my reading of the law it is on the Trustee to provide this service - do I need to pay for this, esp where I cannot get them to respond to me in a timely manner, sent the payment in before the payoff demand was even prepared and have had the property paid off for well over a month now with no answers to other questions I have posed for them.

Thank You!

Your contract will explain this. You are likely responsible for it though...

Thank you for your response!! Ok, read through the fine print... don't totally understand it but think I see where I pay the reconveyance & Looks to be a very standard Deed of Trust by a google search. As far as the demand, where they did not prepare it in a timely manner and I paid before preparation of it, can I dispute responsibility of payment on it? I know it's only $30, but they have been a PITA to deal with and if I can contest it, I feel like doing it...
