Our birthmom has recently come to Florida to deliver her baby. She is planning on putting 'unknown' on the birth certificate since the birthfather told her to "take care of it". Our only concern is that what if he changes his mind; can he come back & dispute the adoption here in the state of Florida given that he resides in a different state? We have waited long & hard & would not want to jeopardize this. Thanks!:(

You need an attorney - yes, the "plan" can easily backfire.

well, putting "unkown" would be a lie, wouldn't it. A putative father has a right to seek verification of paternity and custody of his child and if you intentionally frustrate that, well, simply put, it is not usually a good thing.

you really need to get dad to release his rights or you do risk him seeking to recover his child.

You really should have an attorney involved with an adoption. They sometimes do not turn out well for do it yourselfers.

During adoption proceedings in FL the law requires that notice be given to all putitive fathers. This can be done by publication, however the law requires a diligent search be done and a SWORN affidavit would have to be filed with the mother stating that she does not know who the father is.
IF a mother were to lie on that affidavit THAT would be a HUGE mistake and could easily cause the adoption to be overturned at a much later date.

PLEASE, put the child's best interests first- an attorney is an absolute must AND birth mother must be honest about the father. To do anything otherwise would be placing the child in geat danger of future heartaches.
