Recently, I got a real estate salesperson license in Florida. Eventually, I would like to get a broker license. However, in order to become eligible to take the broker's course and the state exam I have to be active(sign up with a broker as a salesperson) for a certain period of time. I am currently on an H1-B visa, working for a company not related in the real estate sales. It's very unlikely that I can get another H1 to work for a real estate broker. Some say that since a real estate saleperson typically have an independent contractor agreement, maybe it's not considered as "employed" therefore, not against the immigration law. I'm not sure if this is true, but what if I sign up as an independent contractor, but did not actually earn anything? Would I violate the law? Or is there any way for me to activate my real estate license? Any suggestion will be appreciated!!!

Thanks

You need to check the conditions of the H type visas. I am not 100% sure, but I think you are not able to take work outside of your 'field' and can not work for anyone except the company that has sponsored you.
