A friend hit his head at work due to the fault of the company. He cut his head open, requiring stitches, and also suffered a concussion. The company is paying all his medical bills.

He did this on a Friday. The next two weeks were the regularly scheduled shut-down period for the factory where almost all the employees are off for 2 weeks. The company is saying that they do not have to pay him for those two weeks since he wasn't off work due to his injury, even though the doctor said that he was not to return to work for at least one week after the accident.

Does this sound right? Should he have been paid for that time since he was injured, even though the factory was shut down and he wouldn't have been working anyway?

Yes, that sounds right. No, they did not need to pay him for time that the company was closed and he would not have been working anyway.
