Hi all,
are employers responsible in any way when work place violence extends beyond the borders of the work place ?
situation:
big company boss implies that a certain co worker of a now known gang-member-soon-to be-ex-employee of big company is the cause of gang members firing.
Gang member tries to run down and shoot certain co -worker at a bus stop across town the day following the firing. Co workers family are now also continuously harrassed by the "family" of this gang member.
Now, apparently, cause for firing was , well, gang like behavior of intimidation and over all laziness on the job which affected ALL co workers at big company, who, when questioned, did in fact 'grumble' at having to pick up said gang members slack or having to light a fire under them to do the job like the rest.
Is it negligence, or reckless, of the management to shift the focus of cause onto a co worker during the firing of another employee ?
Can this management team be held liable for the subsequent violent reaction of the fired employee against the co worker who was mentioned during the firing process ????
Thanks in advance and sorry if I have overstated my question...
