:mad:What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? CALIFORNIA

MY QUESTION IS CAN I FILE LAW SUIT AGAINST MY SON'S HIGH SCHOOL IF HE WAS NOT ALLOWED TO ATTEND HIS PROM DUE TO THE FACT HE ARRIVED LATE, DUE TO CAR TROUBLE AND THE FACT WE GOT LOST TRYING TO GET TO THE EVENT. THE EVEN BEGAN @ 7:30PM, HIS DATE ACCIDENTALLY FORGOT HER DRESS, WHICH CAUSED US TO HAVE TO TRAVEL FOR OVER AN HOUR TO RETRIEVE IT . WE DIDN'T GET TO THE PROM UNTIL 11PM, WHICH WOULD HAVE LEFT ATLEAST A HALF HOUR OF TIME REMAINING FOR MY SON AND HIS DATE TO ATTEND AN EVENT WE PAID FOR OVER $200.OO, AND UPON ARRIVAL, WE WERE TOLD HE AND HIS DATE COULD NOT ENTER, THEY WERE TOLD IT WAS TOO LATE!! CAN I SUE THE HIGHSCHOOL FOR CIVIL RIGHTS VIOLATIONS, OR ATLEAST ASK FOR AN EXPLANATION AND APOLOGY AND A REFUND OF OUR COST OF THE TICKETS TO THE PROM?

Please do not type in all caps.

Prom is not a civil right.

You have no cause here. You, your son, and his unclothed date, have 100% of the blame for this yourselves.

You can pay an attorney to file a suit against anyone. But, this is not a civil rights case, and without damages, you will be paying an attorney far more than the $200 expenses you could recover if you won.

If you absolutely feel you have a compelling case, you can file a small claims action. I do not think you will prevail as the school has no responsibility for your child's bad luck, but you can try.

Sure you can, as long as you don't mind being laughed out of court and, if possible, fined for a frivolous lawsuit.

You have GOT to be kidding. This post cannot possibly be for real.

No girl going to a prom would "forget" her dress.

There's no excuse for people to get "lost" going to the prom.

Considering your other excuses, I don't "buy" the car trouble one.

This isn't a case where you sue, and the school pays you off to get rid of you.

If you go to court, you face the very real chance of being the one paying money to the school.

i'm thinking this is the story sonny boy told mom and dad, the story girl who forgot dress told HER mom and dad of why the two never MADE it to prom.

being that late, i could see them not being let in. i just think two kids were of deflowering themselves instead.

**A: yup, some action before the prom rather than after. No sense get her prom dress wrinkled.

Decades ago, my HS prom (and all social events of the like) had rigorous rules on when you could arrive and when you could leave.

You HAD to arrive within 30 minutes before or after the scheduled event start time or you would not be admitted. And if you tried you would be investigated and probably punished simply for trying to enter late.

You could not leave the premises until 30 minutes before the scheduled end of the event under pain of severe punishment (the events would often run long after the scheduled end time)

Once you left you could not be readmitted, and were required to leave the area. Loitering, re-entry or even trying to re-enter would be cause for severe punishment.

These rules were to prevent drinking, drugging and smoking. And teen sex, or even ordinary snogging.

I suspect similar or stricter rules were in place, and posted.

There is no case.
