Generally, when the car is sitting parked at home, I clear off all the snow once it has stopped precipitating. This makes it easier when I dig out.

I remove the snow from my windshield before driving it. I also make sure that all snow is removed from all windows, mirrors, lights, and license plates.

I am NY, but not NYC.
