My mom had her citizenship interview a few months ago and she failed the English test. She has been given a second interview date on late April of this year. She is in her 60's. Would hiring a lawyer help getting thru the english test portion of the interview. I haven't talked to a lawyer yet because of concerns for high cost. How much does hiring a lawyer to accompany her to the interview usually cost? A ballpark figure?

Thank you for your help. What is the name of your state?

What would a LAWYER do about her inability to pass the English test???

I vote for learning more English for the test. That's the only reasonable answer.

according to changes effective Nov. 2006, USCIS now supplies study materials for the new pilot test, have you checked into that?? In addition, the English test portion, requires the person to correctly read a sentence, in English, within three tries. This certainly appears to be something that a person who is able to post on the internet could help mom study, Dave, I am talking about YOU Dave.

You might look in your area for classes for immigrants to help them prepare for the naturalization test. I don't see what a lawyer can do for her at this point.

Is she eligible for the waiver? If she is not, there is nothing a lawyer can do since she still needs to be able to answer the questions on her own; the lawyer cannot do that for her.
