Hi all
I live in Va. He lives in Ca for the last 8 months. He got transfered to Los Angeles . My question... where do I file for divorce ? in Va or in Cali? How I understand the state of California is much better to women when it comes to divorce. SO ...where should I file ? Va has legal separation for a year if you have a child ,what I have. DOes California has the same rules?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

It's not the state that is much better to woman when it comes to divorce, it's the bumbling idiot judges. Example: The Anna Nicole Smith case. Now there was a real winner of a judge!

California simply requires that you are a resident of the state for six months and have lived in the county in which you file, for three months, for a divorce decree/Judgment to be granted.

California has Legal Separation also, which does not require the above residency.

Many people file for legal separation (as they don't qualify for residency, yet), and then, change the paperwork to a dissolution (divorce) when they qualify (only one filing fee & CP can get support ordered immediately).

OP: see the Family Law Facilitator (offices at most courthouses; govt-funded program for helping 'pro pers' file the paperwork).
Also, there are many good books on "do-it-yourself" divorce in CA. Check out your local bookstore.
