Hi my name is Anthony and I live in Orange County, CA

A few years back, I started a business with a friend (Bad Idea) and I had a Credit Card that was under my TAX ID #. I lent it to my friend to use (I'm an idiot) and he never paid it off. The Credit Card mail went to our P.O. Box, so I never seen the bill. He only charged about $1-$2k and I thought he paid it off. Now about 3 years later I get an envelope a couple of weeks ago from a collection agency and they want $9-$10k to settle. I am going to school full-time and my parents are helping me out as much as they can. Is there anyway I can file bankruptcy on this debt because it was under my Tax ID # and was part my business years back? I am asking you folks at free advice because I don't even have the cash to pay for a bankruptcy attorney.

Thanks.

Send them a letter offering them $500 as a final settlement. Tell them you are in school and if forced to pay more you will have to file BK. They should agree, and send you the final paperwork. $500 is better than nothing. It worked for a friend of mine!

I will try that.

Thank you.
