Hey, I would buy a copy for MDB's SM!:D Would it come with pudding?

THAT would be a publishing nightmare! :p

But I have been highly amused, imagining it, for the past couple of minutes! :D

Maybe an airtight, spillproof, un-poppable pudding packet of some sort...?? I'll be working on this idea today! :D

Who'd buy it? The people that need it would never look for it.

Oh, FINE, STOMP on my DREAMS!!!!!!

:p :D ;)

Well, we could all buy it and keep it on hand to bonk those that NEED the education over the head.

Silver, make it a REALLY big, heavy book. Hardback, natch.;)

*snuffle!*
Thank you, mommyof4. You have restored my dreams! :D

It will be SO BIG, SO HUGE, no one can imagine such a large tome!

Great article!

I just wanted to add for anyone who may be thinking;

“Why is the burden of diplomacy and civility rest so heavily on the stepparent?”

While I agree that all the adults in a child’s life should act like with civility, Mom and Dad are unquestionable members of the child’s family. Mom and Dad at some point chose one another to mate with and are forever linked to the child.

When it comes to steps, no one gets a “vote” in whether their Ex remarries and so no one chooses a stepparent for their child. The Step, CHOSES to try to enter the family of Spouse, Ex and Child(ren). That role comes with varying levels of “drama.”

When becoming a step, or if you’ve done so already you have to ask yourself.
- Am I able to resist jealous feelings or at least stuff those feelings into an ulcer?
- Am I willing to fall in love with a child that I have NO LEGAL role with?
- Am I willing to keep my mouth shut during parenting disputes?
- Am I willing to suffer the “hurt” of doing much of the “work” of being a parent without being entitled to all the “perks” I would get as parent?
- Am I willing realize that my spouse and Ex are both humans and may not have the best or fairest judgment when it comes to the other.
- Am I willing to play diplomat to help my spouse co parent effectively or at least not make things worse?
- Am I willing to consider that if my spouses Ex is really the he/she thinks then what does that say about my spouses taste and ultimately me?
- Am I willing to accept the financial burden that comes with a spouse “with strings” even though that will impact my future children with Spouse?
- Am I willing to foster a positive perception of the child’s other parent because that ultimately shapes the child’s perception of him/herself?

If the answer to any of these questions is, “No” then you have no business being a stepparent.
