What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
MISSISSIPPI
====================

Last night, I got stopped for walking in my neighborhood at 3am. The cop shined a light at me & in my face, then he stopped & asked me what I was doing. I kept walking, but at least told him, "I'm going home". The fact that I didn't stop irked him, so he turned his car around, caught up to me in a couple hundred feet, and jumped out with a taser, shouting "Stop or I'll tase you!!"

I certainly stopped. Put my hands on his hood, and then he patted me down. He said there *were* a couple burglaries in the neighborhood, but I know that was a lie. When another cop got there, she said that he's allowed to stop me, because there *could* have been a burglary around here, and I *could* have been a burglar.

I'd prefer to never speak to an officer again, since that's my right as a citizen of a free society. Do I really have to acknowledge him and obey his every wish?

Thanks for the help!

Nah..You can just keep on walking and escalate a non-situation into an arrest situation.

Only if you don't want to be tasered!

Seriously, you do have to produce ID when requested, and they can pat you down for their own protection. Unless you thow them a donut! :p

Really, tho... Can a cop do anything to me if I don't speak to him whatsoever? Obviously, if I see somebody get shot, or see somebody get hit by a car... I'll speak up, but can a cop tazer me if I just play dumb?

I just don't think the guy'd like it if I came over to his house, asking him what he was doing and to come over and tell me all about himself.

As far as I know you have to obey a police officer whenever they stop you or ask you to identify yourself, etc, whether your walking home or doing nothing.

Ignoring an officer can be construed as "suspicious behavior" so let's avoid that, yes?

I've been stopped by officers at night, right outside my house, when I was loading my car for a vacation..

I actually thanked the officers for being on patrol and looking out for my neighborhood. It could have been a burglary.

Write a report to the agency that handles police compliants

Write a nasty letter to the police about how you hate them all and all their families.

Nothing happens when I do this, but I usually feel better.

Also if a cops asks what are you doing give a really mouthy answer like "F-off you agent of the zionist occupation government."

And then ask yourself, "Is being tasered just so that I can ignore a police officer really that bad?"

I am a night person. My dogs and I walk through a very secure neighborhood every night about midnight.

I have actually formed a first name relationship with the cops that patrol through here from time to time. They asked me what I was doing, I told them, we joked, we laughed and, the best part, I didn't get tasered.

I certainly don't hate their families since their families don't stop me for walking late at night. There are too many cops in Gulfport for the amount of crime that actually happens. If the cop stopped me because I was carrying a Plasma HDTV, a PS3, some power tools, etc... I'd understand what his motive was. If I get stopped for carrying nothing, only because it's late at night... what is he gonna find? He can only pat me down for weapons and can't stick his hands in my pockets. What's the point? It's a power trip... I must listen and obey, even tho I pay some of his salary.

I *do* hate cops that have nothing better to do than stop somebody ONLY because it's late at night. I am a night person, and this is the 3rd time this has happened in the past year. I guess the only way around this is to get a dog to walk with me anytime I'm strolling around the neighborhood.
