What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? CA

Hi. I got a ticket going West bound on I-80 back in May. I made a wrong turn and wound up heading toward the bay bridge. I ended up getting sucked into the bus lane ( I didn't see that since it was night and I was trying to figure out how to turn around.) There were about 5 police cars there and they pulled me over (seems like this is a great revenue source for them... maybe it should be marked better for people to see at night) Anyway, I am wondering if I could fight this or get the fine reduced at least.
The fine was for $436 and seems a ridiculous fine for getting lost and disoriented.

You seem to make a habit of doing that... As this should have been posted under "Moving violation"... Don't fret though, you won't be fined for this mistake.

As for your citation, not really sure if there is any way to get out of it... You might think that there was not sufficient signage however, those matters are usually mandated and set according to Federal standards which are outlined in a document referred to as The Manual For Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) as well as the California Supplement to that document.

You should be able to find both here... California MUTCD And in the slight chance that you might be able to prove that the signs you drove be were not up to standard, then a few pictures of the same might prove as a worthy tool to use in your defense.

As for your "revenue" comment and although you did not mention whether it was the CHP who you were cited by or if it was a local police agency, but you might be surprised to know that the CHP sees zero revenue dollars from citations that they write where as a local police department might only see a few ($5 or so) from each citation. Hardly the revenue stream that you're imagining...
