What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Texas

Can anyone tell me the necessary forms to file for an adult adoption?

Why would this adult adoption be necessary?

Does the reason change the forms I need to file? The reason is because the man has been my father my entire life, and I want to make it legal - to include taking his name. I am over 18 years of age, I consent to it, he consents to it, and my mother (his wife) consents to it.

No, it doesn't. But lots of kooks come to this forum to do stupid, illegal things. Before we look up forms and stuff, we like to find out if the poster wants to do something doable, or something stupid/illegal.

Didn't kill you, did it?

because you are an adult, you can do this relatively easy. however, what forms are available is not known to this forum community. we don't know your personal court house rules of procedure. check your local county courthouse. there should be a self help center to walk you through your request.

Let me google that for you

Thank you Zigner. I have read through almost all of these websites that I found on google; however, I still cannot find which forms need to be filed. I contacted my local courthouse and they told me they cannot help me and cannot legally give me the forms I need. If I could afford an attorney, I would have gone that route, and it seems so unnecessary considering all parties understand the ramifications and consent to the adoption.

Step one: Save money for lawyer.
Step two: Hire a lawyer.
Step three: Follow the instructions the lawyer gives you.

Adoptions, adult or otherwise, are not DIY projects.

Got it. No, absolutely nothing illegal. He has always been my stepfather, he and my mother have been married for a very long time, we all just want to make everything "right".

i'm almost positive they told you they cannot legally advise you and cannot legally give you the exact forms you need.

not that they couldn't give you the forms.

walk up to the clerk, ask for an adoption packet and review it.

Thank you Isis1. Since my local courthouse is not being helpful, I guess we can just know where the heart stands, and let the paperwork go.

This was the exact email they sent me:

The loaw prohibits us from providing any type of forms to the public. We do not have a legal staff. I am not sure if you can find information on adoptions on line or not but you might try TexasLawHelp.org.

Really? Ok, have a nice day.

No, not really! If I absolutely HAVE to, then I have no choice. Gee, this is such a great forum. I cannot afford an attorney. I should be able to file the required paperwork myself. All I want to know is what the required forms are in the state of Texas. I don't think I'm asking for a brief. If you simply don't know the answer, just say you don't know the answer. Denigrating comments are unnecessary.
