What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Illinois
I have been searching the internet trying to find answers to my question, but everything I have found is either confusing or not what I'm looking for. I was hoping someone on here could help me. I was born and adopted in California, but I have been living in Illinois for 17 years. I want to remove my mother's name off my birth certificate. This topic has been a little harder to find, since it seems easier to have the father removed than the mother. In time I may have both parents removed from my birth certificate, but would like to have my mother's name removed immediately. If anyone knows how to do this or has suggestions on where I should look I would greatly appreciate it

Why?

I'm not sure it's even possible without someone adopting you, anyway, but I'm curious why you're so eager to remove a name from your birth certificate.

How does someone remove their legal parent from a birth certificate, other than by being adopted and getting a new birth certificate issued? Male or female, I've never heard a "child" can just undo their legal parentage.

I agree. I hesitate to say that it's impossible, but I don't know of any way to make it happen that way without adoption. (I won't say flat out that it can't be done because I don't know if it could be done in very rare cases of extreme abuse).

I'm still waiting to see what the purpose is. There may be other ways to accomplish the objective without changing the bc.

You can photo shop a copy if it makes you feel better. It will have the same amount of legal influence of trying to do it any other way, provided you are an adult.

I wouldn't recommend that...its likely illegal as heck.

Still waiting for OP to explain what s/he is trying to accomplish.

if find it odd that people are so shocked as to why she wants to remove her mother from it. as someone stated earlier; same genetics, does not a parent/mother make.

i came along this same post because i am also looking to do the same thing. while some may not understand an attempt to seemingly erase one's past; years of abuse from a parent (mothers are able to do this just as easily as fathers) can greatly influence a person to want to rid themselves of that connection in any form.

if someone does have more information on how to accomplish this, i would greatly appreciate the information as well.
