there was an incident in my family that happened a while back...maybe over 10 years ago. where my mothers husband at the time had raped my older sister. i was a child at the time so i only can remember bits and pieces of what happened. what i do know is that cps was called and me n my sister were taken away from my mother for a while. eventually she did get all of us back but she was stilll seeing that man. later on down the line he moved in with us again. well he did it again, only this time it was me. i was 14 at the time. i told my mother what happened but she didnt believe me. the next day my mother, 3 younger sisters and the guy that had did what he did packed up n left town.

my question is: i am now 22. is there anything that can be done now or is it to late?

im not sure. at the time that it happend i was, well i dnt want to say i was a child, cuz i was 14 when it happened, but i was in a way helpless. and now that im older i feel maybe i can do something about it now. but at the same time i have 2 younger sisters that might be effected by the outcome. so im not sure what to do or if i should even do anything about it.
what bothers me the most is that my mother is still with the guy...

You're going to have to tell us the state. The issue will be statute of limitations which varies greatly by state.

What happened to you when mom, her husband, and your 3 younger sisters left town?

In TX, the statute of limitations is typically 10 years from the time the victim turns 18. So it's not to late to file criminal charges.

The problem would be that there probably isn't any evidence, so it would be hard to get a conviction. You might want to talk with the local district attorney to see if there's enough to take the case. It will probably come down to your and your sister's memories and how credible the DA thinks you will be on the stand. It will also depend on the CPS records for your sister and how good the caseworker was at taking notes and how good their memory is.

It's really disgusting that your mother didn't do anything. Not only would it have been easier to get a conviction when it happened, the younger sisters have now been in a dangerous situation, as well.

I think that the 1996 rape was the one involved with her older sister....it happened later to her.

She said it happened to her older sister 10 years ago. So therefore I would like the OP to clarify everything. Or this will get considered as being a troll.

You're right - it needs to be clarified. Unfortunately, lack of written communication skills makes it hard to follow some posts.

As I'm reading it, it happened to OP when OP was 14 (which would have been around 2003). It happened to her sister in 1996 - when OP would have been around 7. The reason she had a date for 1996 is that is when they moved in with their father.

I don't know which incident she was referring to with 'maybe over 10 years ago'.
