What is the name of your state FL

I work for an alarm dispatch company. I made an error in a call that I understand and admit. A call was received from a business owner but I failed to ask him for their password which is normal protocol. The owner complained to the owner of the company I work for therefore I was suspended for one week without pay, understandably. But my question is, can a company do this without us having knowledge that a mistake like this can lead to a suspension.

Unfortunately, yes. They are allowed to do it. Now later, if they discharge this employee, this will be reflected on his record as "progressive discipline."

If you had been terminated for this occurence that just happened, instead of suspended, you could have filed for unemployment insurance, and the fact that you made a mistake would be looked at, not knowing what would happen if you did it. Did you know this was the procedure? Did you know that you were apt to be terminated if you did not do this? Had the company a policy that was clearly stated, where you knew the correct thing to do, but chose not to do it?

Since you were not terminated, I'd just take it as a learning experience. Next time, you'll know exactly what they'll do to you if you do the wrong thing. Probably that's termination. So don't make this mistake again.

Yes. No laws require that an employer have a list of work rules and the consequences for violating them. The employer may invoke disciplinary action as they deem appropriate.

Thread Hijack!!!

OP, can you activate the cameras on home alarm systems whenever you choose or only after the system is triggered?

End Hijack

Yes. they advertise new ones on tv, where they can observe the intruder in your house. I wonder whether other times they could manually activate them!!!!

What new ones? What company is advertising these? What manufacturer is making them?

The little "toy" alarm/DVR systems available to the general public aren't worth the time to put them in.

I have cameras in my house...I can log in to them any time I want. They're not exactly new ;)

Thanks everyone. I realize what I did and yes I know i didnt follow the rules. It was just one of those bad times when I wasnt thinking, we all make mistakes and I unfortunately learned in a tough way as I cant really afford to lose the pay but it is what it is.

"Can they lol Done and Did, right? Sorry, feel lucky u still have a job"

I already know this, I dont need a lectured comment on it.

I appreciate all the responses.
