I have received several several calls from someone whom I have looked up the callback number and found them to be a debt collector. They are calling my a couple times a week (not as bad as some might be I admit), but they are announcing on a voice mail (on a phone number I've had for years, and they've never spoken to anyone at this number), the voice mail greeting does not identify who will hear the message, and they proceed to give a first and last name as well as complete social security number, alleging there are serious federal allegation about to be brought against "your name and social security number" and saying to call back at the number provided or "my next point of contact will be your current employer and reference"

My main question is, if they have no confirmation whether the voice mail box they are in is even for the person they are calling for, is it legal for them to be leaving a full name and social security number?

My second question is, this is the message (edited for sensitive information)

Quote:
This message is for firstname. Firstname, this is Collectorsfirstname (which changes each time but seems to be 3 first names and three last names rotated randomly) from the law office. Firstname Lastname, there are 3 federal allegations and judgements being presented on your name and social security number your social security number which is xxx-xx-xxxx I repeat xxx-xx-xxxx.

Before you are legally prosecuted in the courthouse, and before your legal rights get violated, make sure you return this call on my callback number which is xxx-xxx-xxxx

This presents as they intend to VIOLATE legal rights.

Any insights or suggestions would be helpful.

So, you got legal insight and suggestions, didn't like what was said and decided to be snarky.

I am about to call them back, but I wanted to know if this was even legal. Since I am about to get their address, so that I can send my response to them, as I will not be paying this debt, unless force, since in my divorce this debt belongs to my ex wife. If I do end up having to pay it, my next recourse will only be to sue my ex wife, whom I'd just as soon not have further contact with.

But I would have liked to have had answers to the questions I was asking.

I guess I won't come to this board in the future for questions in other areas, since I can expect the question to be ignored and for myself to be interrogated instead.

You do realize that you never actually asked a question in your post, don't you?

And then you didn't answer questions that were designed to get more info in order to HELP YOU.
