First off, I want to apologize to the mods if this is the wrong section under which to post. I'm a bit confused about this due to the nature of my situation. If this is, indeed, a mistake on my part, feel free to move the thread accordingly and I, again, apologize profusely.

I am a 14-year-old Romanian boy. My father is a Ph.D employed as a Research Associate at the University of Pittsburgh, as well as the reason why my mother and I were allowed to live here. He came here two years ago on what was meant to be a one-year contract (on a J1 visa), but was extended to four years. This enabled him to be able to bring my mother and I to live with him for three years.
Recently, due to a situation at work involving a quarrel between him, an IT manager and his boss (nothing violent happened at all, but I don't understand the details), his job was put in jeopardy after months and months of him complaining about the "pressure" he was experiencing. He got terminated today. He is supposed to go to a meeting with the dean tomorrow to discuss further, but it doesn't look good and it's likely that he will indeed be officially terminated and we'll have to buy plane tickets within a few days so that we can leave on time -- the visas (J1 for him, J2 for my mom and I) will only allow us to stay here for one more month after he is laid off, as I understand it.

I talked to my best friend about this situation, since I really don't want to leave the States (I fit in much better here, and most importantly, the education here far outperforms the Romanian system), and he said his mom is willing to take me in at least until I can finish high school. She is a very compassionate woman who works a rather high-paying job at UPMC (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, for those who happen to not know). My mom also spontaneously brought up the option of me staying here for the education and opportunities, with another family, while they go back to Romania and my dad tries to find a job somewhere better (better than Romania, that is, for clarity). I am wondering now how such a thing would be arranged, or if it is possible at all considering my situation (which I will do my best to clarify further at your demand).

Thank you in advance.

Are your parents prepared to no longer have you as their child? They will no longer be your parents?

This will not happen quickly. If your parents agree, they and your prospective adoptive parents need to speak with an experienced adoption attorney - one who is familiar with complex international adoptions - as soon as possible.

Do your friends parents (as well as your own) understand what adoption would mean? As Pro mentioned above - your parents would become legal strangers to you. They would have no further obligations to support you in any manner. That would fall upon your "new" parents - financially, emotionally, educationally, etc.
