What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Texas

I was given verbal notice 30 days prior to the day which I will be laid off (Jan 15, 2016). My contract states:

[contract for employment is auto renewed from the original date of employment April 16, 2002 for successive annual terms unless it is terminated in accordance with the provisions set forth].

The only provision that concerns or pertains to my and the company’s current situation is Provision 12.2 (b) that states the employee/employer contract may be terminated if the occurrence of circumstances which make it impossible or impractical for the employer’s business or portion of to continue. If any provision is met; employee shall be entitled to no further compensation beyond a written notice of 30 days prior.

Reason for the layoff is because of a significant loss of business (revenue), no fault of mine and the company can no longer pay my full salary.

Question 1: Am I reading the contract correctly; does my current term end on my original commencement date of April 16?

Question 2: can the above provision be justifiably used by my employer to not pay me compensation up to my auto renewal contract date of April 16?

Question 3: Do I have any rights to demand that I be compensated through the end date of my current contract term April 16 or am I foolish and the contract auto renewal date truly doesn’t mean a thing.

Thanks,
Dan

Er, lets see, you think they might owe you wages up till April 30th when they've clearly stated that the reason you're being laid off is that they've had a downturn in their business and they won't be able to continue to employ you after Jan 15 because of the wording in that contract?

File for unemployment benefits immediately when you are separated. That's what you are entitled to according to that contract.

You were apparently terminated for a covered reason. Your position is a portion of their business impractical to continue. You get your 30 days and you are done.

Thanks, that's what I thought. Just wanted to get some clarification. No doubt they covered their tails by the addition of that provision.
