SHOULD they be taken down? Probably not.
COULD they be taken down? Absolutely! Heck, as you have been informed, FB can take an account down for whatever reason they choose - even NO reason.
And that is it's downfall.

*Classy. And I can feel the sarcasm through the screen.
And that is it's downfall.

Yes, the 'K' was intentional. It's part of what you felt: a reference you didn't get.

Let us know when you replace MrZ.
Funny ... I don't see FB falling.
People can use it or not. I use it, primarily to keep in touch with friends and family. It's a great resource in spite of the downside.
If I may be sarcastic myself... You probably referenced something you saw on Facebook.
I don't understand that reference.
It most likely won't, at least in the foreseeable future.
And that be exactly what I used it for as well. I just used a false name so I could avoid certain people and situations. All of my contacts knew this and respected it. Facebook didn't.
One of your contacts obviously didn't respect it too much; you need to check your friends list.
(I'm being serious here, with no snark. Someone you think is a friend isn't your friend at all)
It's hard to tell if that was the case; Facebook began implementing a policy not too long back that would basically prompt users to upload a government-issue ID to their secure servers to check the legitimacy of their account. That's the first article I got when Googling why when this all first started for me.

I have NEVER been asked to submit any form of ID to FB - and I don't know that I would be inclined to do so even if they did. Something prompted their inquiry, and it may have had something to do with the name you used on the site. Perhaps the name did not sound like a real name so it was flagged. Perhaps not.
Heck, I had a fake site I used for investigations that was completely phony and lacked any real world support at all - and it still exists! So, something or someone tipped FB off.
I don't know what the OP finds so shocking here. She uploaded an ID (let's say it said Jane Doe) to "verify" that she was Princess Consuela Bananahammock. And she's surprised that FB didn't let her keep her page? I'm just wondering if the same thing happened at the airport, would OP still expect to board a plane?![]()
Phoebe Buffay would be proud.
