Can I get an absent father's name removed from a birth certificate?

1. There’s absolutely no reason for him to be on the birth certificate considering he is not a father in the slightest bit
2. I need his approval for certain things (like getting a passport) solely because he is on the birth certificate

You can see from the attached website that there are options to get a passport without the other parent's consent:

One is to get sole legal and physical custody
One is to get a specific court order saying you can get a passport without the other parent's consent
Another is to fill out form DS-5525 to show that you have special circumstances, such as not being able to locate the other parent.

Accept, that in most states you cannot remove a father from the BC for abandonment, unless there is a stepparent waiting in the wings to adopt the child.

You are clueless and don't comprehend what I said. She can't track him down and therefore that is a difference in how they parent/are involved. She chose him as dad. She doesn't get to change that just because she decides she wants to do so. Learn the law before you go spouting off.

No. That is not a legally acceptable reason to remove a father's name from a birth certificate.
