What is the name of your state?Arkansas

My father just got a speeding ticket in Arkansas for 67 in a 45 zone. He lives in New Mexico and was just traveling through for a little vacation. However, he and I both feel that the cop is lying. My dad is also an attorney in New Mexico. My dad has a Valentine 1, which is a top of the line radar detector, that he bought 2 years ago. I know that it works very, very well and has never let us down. My father said that the Valentine 1 did not go off at all and all of a sudden a cop pulled him over and told him he was speeding. He told the cop that he wasn't speeding and that the cop did not have any reason to believe that he was speeding because the radar detector did not go off. Then the cop showed my dad the radar gun's reading which said 67 MPH. I do believe that the cop is lying like the majority of them do and I'd like to help get my dad out of this $202 nonsense. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as my father does not have much legal experience with traffic tickets. Thanks a lot,
TJ

"I'd like to help get my dad out of this $202 nonsense."
*** Then pay the ticket for him. Pretty simple, huh??

Why do you bash every post I make? I'm asking for help fighting the ticket and you act like you have something against me and tell me to just pay it. Someone other than JETX please respond. What I'm looking for is someone with similar experience that can tell me something like, "Oh yeah, this worked for me..." Thanks for the extremely valuable information, JETX

It could have been a laser rather than a radar unit. While the Valentine should have also picked up the laser it is possible that the officer hit him from behind.

I'm sure your father can afford the ticket.

So the V1 won't pick up radar from behind? That hurts. I spent $400 on that damn thing last Christmas. What would happen if he just didn't pay the ticket? He lives in New Mexico and could easily live with never traveling in Arkansas again, lol.

EDIT: Just checked www.valentine1.com and the site says that the V1 detects radar and laser. It also says that it has 360 degree protection.

And if the radar/lidar is not active until the trigger is pulled (when the car is seen) it means that AS you are getting tagged with the reading the device might go off.

I don't know why so many people put so much credibility in those darn things. It's so much easier to just follow the speed limit.

And so everyone knows - you CAN write citations for excessive speed without a radar or lidar. There are other ways to do it.

And if it comes down to the driver's word against the officer's, chances are the officer's will be believed on the matter unless the judge happens to swear by this radar detector himself.

Quit your damn whining.... the only reason you THINK that I am bashing you is because your posts are so inane. So, your dad played 'speed roulette', lost and got a ticket. That is the risk that one takes when they make the conscious decision to break the law..... simply, if he can't do the time.... don't do the crime.
(Oh, and guess what..... though retired, my Dad still likes to do ride-alongs with his old buddies in the Luna County Sheriff Dept. So, maybe one day he'll get to 'pop' your pop speeding on I-10!!!)

It's cry-baby little wienies like you that piss me off!! Why do you think that anyone can give you advice on how to help your dad avoid his responsibility??

What would happen if he just didn't pay the ticket? He lives in New Mexico and could easily live with never traveling in Arkansas again, lol.
That is where the REAL fun begins. Most of the states (including both Arkansas AND New Mexico) are member states of the 'Non Resident Violators Compact'. That means that the outstanding ticket in Arkansas (if he doesn't resolve it), will be noticed to his state and New Mexico will suspend his license. The 'good old days' of skipping out on an out-of-state ticket are LONG-gone!!!

You Are Guilty

Not that I think it applies here, but there was an old episode of 20/20 where they rigged a car with 5-6 hidden cameras showing its speedo, views out the windshield and back windows, and views of both sides (to show where the lane markers were) and then drove it up and down I-95 through the southern states.
Damned if some hillbilly (local?) cops didn't pull them over and make all kinds of claims of infractions that weren't supported by the tape (weaving, speeding, etc.)

That being said, those cops never had a radar unit with a locked speed on it. Maybe the V1 needs an updating? You can send it back in to get the latest software revision for free I think.

JETX, you really are a piece of S***. I just thought that maybe you were for a little while but you have removed all doubt. Keep your comments to yourself. You know damn good and well that you would be pissed if you got a $202 speeding ticket after investing in a $400 radar/laser detector. And don't tell me that you would drive at or under the posted speed limit during a long trip from New Mexico to Arkansas. There isn't anybody that wouldn't speed for at least a little while on a trip that long. I agree with what "You Are Guilty" said about crooked inbred hillbilly pigs that like to f*** with people.

Nope. I am too smart to assume that ANY radar detector (and yes, I have one) is a 'blank check' to speed. And I am also too smart (and too good a driver) to even consider doing 67 mph in a 45 mph zone. What a dumb thing to do..... almost as dumb as whining and crying about getting caught doing it.

So, your little plastic radar detector didn't work. Tough crap!! Sue the maker.... just don't assume that the rest of us are idiots like you and your 'father'.

I used to just love to 'pop' little punks like you. :D

And, of course, I guess the fact that radar and lidar are used to confirm a visual estimation isn't figuring in to the equation that people use with these 'detectors'.

I am not CA certified on radar, so I have to rely on other methods including visual estimation ... and, 'lo and behold, these other methods seem to work just fine!

FYI

When an officer uses laser please keep in mind that the beam is very narrow and precise. If the beam hits your headlights, front plate etc. it often will not activate your detector. Detectors are useless with laser.

Drive safe!
