About 6-7 months ago I made the mistake of taking about 500.00 worth of pc equipment from my ex-employer....well...i ended up quiting about 1-2 months after that...3 months later i get a call from the sherriff wanting to ask me some questions because they had tracked down what was missing and saw that I had sold it on ebay...Today got a letter in the mail telling me to report to court on the 28th of this month....anybody ever have the same situation happen to them? if so what was your outcome?

Nothing like a felony or two to brighten up your day.

Get a lawyer now - you MIGHT be able to get away with county time and probation ... plus restitution, fine, court costs, and fees.

I was also charged with a grand theft & was offered 6 months in the beginning but by the time I pled guilty I was only given 18 weekends of the weekend work program & 3 years formal probation. It depends on several things.
1)Do you have any record?
2)If so, what are your priors?
3)Do you have any thing hanging over your head at all?

If you have priors of anything in the same catagory(i.e.shoplifting,recieving stolen property,burglaries,etc.etc.) then I'd say that you are definately looking at a few months in jail. But you can get out on a daily work program for 8 hours a day & go home every night.
You are most likely also facing several charges including embezellment type charges(I forget what the exact term is)which is stealing from your employer. I would suggest, priors or no priors, that you get legal counsul immediately.
