This incident happened on 11/14/20 close to midnight. A woman all of a sudden accused me of trying to kiss her and grab her when I was smoking a cigarette outside a bar.

She came and confronted me 10 minutes after the alleged incident occurred ( according to her). 911 was called and they spoke to both of us taking our IDs and writing down our statements and asked both of us to leave without charging both of us.

My question to all of you is-1) is the police still investigating? 2) if they are, what should I do about it?

No one here can tell you what the police are or are not doing.

If the police ARE still investigating the complaint and ask to speak to you, exercise your right to remain silent. Get an attorney but say nothing to the police.

Good luck.

They checked the cameras and found no suitable evidence. Are they still going to investigate? Thanks for your immediate reply

I don’t know what the police will do.

No one here can tell you what some unknown, unnamed officers will decide to do. The chances are good that they'll do nothing since in an incident like this there really isn't much to investigate that they didn't get when they responded to the call. But nothing stops the police from investigating further if they choose to do so. There is really nothing for you to do about it either way until (if ever) the police want to speak with you again or arrest you. If either of those things happen, you want to consult a lawyer.

One question not asked of you, Neil: Why would a woman falsely accuse you of grabbing and kissing her? Do you have a history of doing that?

...or her?
In other words...do you know her (or her friends)?

It seems an odd accusation to come out of nowhere. I don’t think too many people call 911 just for the heck of it ... although I am sure it happens.

If the OP's story is complete and true, then I suspect he may be the unfortunate victim of mistaken identity.

He needs an attorney if this goes any further.

Thanks for all the replies guys. She was a stranger in a bar. Never even spoken to her before this incident occured. What exactly happened is- my friend and I were at a bar drinking. I'm a heavy smoker, so I used to go out to smoke once or twice for each drink. I went to have my last cigarette, I smoked it and came back inside. My friend was finishing up his beer, so I was waiting for him. He was almost finishing up and I was paying the tab. All of a sudden she comes and says that I tried to kiss and grab her. I was shocked. Her boyfriend or husband, came up to me said why would you try to kiss my girlfriend, I'm calling the cops. We are regulars at the bar, so the manager and every one knew us and they tried telling her it must be a mistake. She wasn't ready to accept that and was adamant on calling the cops. So the cops came, and spoke to both of us. They checked the CCTV footage. No wrongdoing was found. The cops asked me and my friend to book a cab and go home. They asked the lady and her boy friend to do the same. This happened on the night intervening 11/14/20 and 11/15/20( 1AM or so). The cops haven't contacted me since then.

And, no I have a clean record. No civil or criminal charges until now. Not even a traffic ticket. I'm 27 years old.

I suspect that there is very little to worry about. If the video footage shows no wrong-doing at the time that she claims you wrong-did her, then you should be fine. Ride it out for a while. If contacted by the police for anything other than to tell you that they've closed the matter, then contact an attorney.

Thank you so much for the swift response. My only concern is will this show up in a background check in the future?
