This happened to me two years ago. I received a citation in the mail saying I was at a spot at a particular time and didn't insert money in the meter three weeks prior. I was never in any spot where I didn't insert money. I had 3 days to pay the citation of $37 and had missed the deadline for administrative review. I missed the deadline to pay and received a penalty totaling $82, which I had to pay. I thought meter maids are required to issue tickets when the infraction occurs, not send them in the mail. I swear they were writing up the car behind mine when I pulled away because I had money in the meter. Was there any justice for me in this case? It's times like these when I wish the whole city was unregulated.

If you drive away before they have a chance to place the ticket on your vehicle, then it can be mailed to you.

As I tell the locals when they say this to me, if parking were unregulated, you'd NEVER find a space.

That's true. Well, I'd be in support of privatization of parking where every spot requires a pass or ticket. I can't wait for the day when everything is automated and doesn't breakdown. It would have been nice of the ticketers to tell me that I was getting a ticket because they couldn't match up the expired meter with my car. And thanks for the reminder notice 3 weeks later.
