I also know many people who have become CASA workers and other volunteers in areas of family law, because of participation on forums like these.

I only snipped this to concentrate on the above line but I agreed with everything LD stated. Being a CASA is very rewarding if you are willing to learn what best interests means and how to apply it. It is very rewarding if you really want to help children and can get over your personal biases to see what it actually means. Being a CASA is the perfect way to make a positive influence on a child's life and to be a positive person in a child's world and to make sure that the CHILD has a voice without the child having to go to court. I cannot speak more highly about the good CASAs that have been on my cases -- and no, they are not always the CASAs that have agreed with my client. They are the CASAs that understand what best interests mean and how to work for the child.

Okay I could keep going on but OP contact your local court system -- juvenile court most likely -- and ask how to become a CASA if you want to give back. That is something you can do almost immediately that makes a difference.
