You live with your parents. Obviously, they are supporting you. This may eliminate your chances for any income based assistance. I am wondering whether you have actually applied for either Social Security Disability or SSI. If you really were needing to be able to qualify for SSI, which is income based, you wouldn't be sitting around trying to "weight the cost of an attorney versus the monthly payouts." You'd need the money badly enough to take the chance it'd be denied. SSI is not something you'd need an attorney to apply for.
Social Security disability likewise costs nothing to apply for initially, and you'd have the head start of finding out, even if denied, WHY you don't qualify, what you did needed to have in order to qualify. Some of what you have said is internet legend, you should investigate it first hand before you believe things like "the part of the country you live has everything to do with the likelihood of your being approved." or "the process takes 2 to 3 years."
The biggest problem I've seen many people have with filling out the application for Social Security disability is that it begins with something like "list every job you ever worked at and the dates you worked there" when many people do not have that information readily attainable, and "list every doctor you have seen for your condition and the dates you saw them" which isn't easy for people to come up with. But you have nothing to lose by filing, since you're not doing anything else right now, and you do not need an attorney to begin this process.
